Seriously this thing is epic in mass and ability. It is 3.3 lbs of INOX steel and its heft is immediately apparent. It also doubles as an impromptu self-defense weapon, not joking. The pounder disc surface is absolutely flat and the handle is slightly tapered near the disc allowing you to grasp it well with your pinkie when wielding it against your veal scallopini. It is very easy to work around your meat and "pound outward" from the middle as many pounding instructions dictate. The dishwasher safe aspect is great and it outdoes hammer-type mallets by a long shot. Hammer mallets are bad. I really hate hammer-type meat mallets in hindsight now, i've owned several and they were never great. I was looking for a perpendicular-grip type mallet for a while and thought i had to resort to solid brass vintage types from Greece on Ebay, but found this modern stainless version and am so happy with it. The 1000 gram little brother of this device is probably great too for most home kitchens and its cheaper and only a little smaller. I have recently embraced pounded meat cooking and am so happy I purchased this, delicious dinners abound here!!!
